NECBA Summer Kick-off for underprivileged Kids

Back in the 2000, Capt. Bob Batista along with other charter boat captains developed an idea to open the fishing season with a day of fishing for Kids who normally would not have an opportunity to go fishing on a boat in open water.

The season opener was a great success and as a result I, Capt Bob Batista, contacted captains in the Boston area and received a large response. Fourteen captains and their boats participated in this initial event including John Hoffman of the Fishing Academy and representatives from Mayor Menino’s office.

The captains supplied their boats, bait, fishing gear and their time. The Fishing Academy and Mayor Menino hosted the barbeque and prizes. Ms. Pat Gately, Mgr. allowed the use of the Boston Shipyard Marina on Marginal St. in East Boston.

In 2008 we formed a committee consisting of Capt. Dennis DeCarney, Capt. Chuck Casella and Capt. Peter Missick. The 2008 Event surpassed our expectations with participation from 19 Captains and their boats.

As a member of a new association called the New England Charter Boat Association formed by Capt. Rich Milligan. This year, 2009, will be our 3rd event and we expect participation in excess of 25 captains as members and non-members of the NEW association.

The Event will take place on June 30th, 2009 from 9:00am to 1:00pm, to be followed by a Bar-B-Q and guest speakers to award prizes for the largest Flounder, Striped Bass and Bluefish. More details to follow.
